Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) was established on 19 Jan 12 when it was carved out of Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a Deemed University and grants-in-aid institution under DRDO. MILIT continued to function under HQ DRDO from 2012 to 31 Mar 15 and then was constituted as an Armed Forces Training Institute (AFTI) under HQ IDS wef 01 Apr 15. MILIT is co-located at Girinagar, Pune and was functioning as 52nd lab of DRDO prior to its transfer to HQ IDS. Transfer of MILIT from DRDO HQ to HQ IDS was achieved post protracted interactions with DRDO HQ, DIAT and MoD. MILIT is headed by Commandant who is Major General or equivalent rank officer on rotation basis from the three services for duration of two years.
Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune is an inter-service institution of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of India. It conducts prestigious Defence Services Technical Staff Course and trains officers of the three Services of Indian Armed Forces which are Army, Navy, Air Force and officers from friendly foreign countries for command and staff appointments.
Rear Admiral Nelson D’Souza, NM, was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 31 Mar 1991. After completing his Electrical Specialisation in 1992 at INS Valsura, Jamnagar, he started his career as FDLO on board Viraat and did his subsequent tenu res onboard INS Kirch and INS Mysore. He has undergone the Prestigious Staff Course at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Naval Higher Command Course at Naval War College, Goa. He has held key staff appointments as Joint Director at HQATVP and PMG-CMS at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy). As Deputy Director General at WESEE, he headed the CMS programme for 03 years. He has served for nearly a decade in both Naval Dockyards. He has held the appointment of Principal Director for Weapon Equipment at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) at Delhi. He was awarded the prestigious ‘Nau Sena Medal’ in 2018 for his distinguished service to the Navy. Before assuming command of Military Institute of Technology at Pune, he was the Chief Staff Officer (Technical) of the Eastern Naval Command. He is married to Mrs Shylon D’Souza who is an academician with a vast teaching experience of 25 years with reputed schools of Delhi & Mumbai. They are blessed with two sons, Nihal and Shawn D’Souza.
